Lifting & Leveling

Sidewalk & Walkway
Leveling

Uneven sidewalks and walkways are the number one trip hazard on residential properties. A single raised slab edge is a liability waiting to happen. Polyurethane foam injection levels it in hours — no tear-out, no mess, no week-long project.

Liability Alert: As a homeowner, you can be held liable if someone trips on an uneven sidewalk on your property. Fixing it now is far cheaper than a lawsuit.

Why Sidewalks & Walkways Sink

Sidewalks and walkways are narrow slabs that are particularly susceptible to settlement because they often cross areas with varying soil conditions. Where the walkway crosses a utility trench, tree root zone, or area with different fill material, the soil beneath compacts at different rates.

Tree roots are a major factor. As roots grow beneath a walkway, they can lift sections of the slab. When roots die and decay, they leave voids that cause the slab to drop. Michigan's freeze-thaw cycles compound the problem — water seeps into joints, saturates the sub-base, and freezes, pushing slabs upward or sideways.

The result is the classic "tripped on the sidewalk" scenario — a raised edge between two slab sections that catches toes and creates a genuine safety hazard for family, guests, and delivery personnel.

Signs Your Sidewalk Needs Leveling

Trip Hazards

Raised edges between slab sections that catch feet — the most common sidewalk liability.

Rocking Slabs

Sections that move or rock when stepped on, indicating voids beneath.

ADA Concerns

Uneven surfaces that create accessibility issues for wheelchairs and walkers.

Visible Settlement

One or more sections noticeably lower than adjacent slabs.

Water Pooling

Standing water on walkway sections after rain, indicating improper grade.

Edge Cracking

Cracks forming along edges where settled sections pull away from stable ones.

How Sidewalk Leveling Works

Fast, precise, and minimally invasive

01

Free Assessment

We evaluate each slab section, measure the settlement, and identify the root cause. You get a firm quote — no change orders.

02

Drill & Inject

Small 5/8" holes drilled through settled slabs. Polyurethane foam injected to fill voids and lift the slab back to grade.

03

Level & Verify

Real-time laser monitoring ensures precise, even lifting. Each slab is brought flush with adjacent sections.

04

Patch & Walk

Holes patched, foam cures in 15 minutes. Walk on it immediately. Trip hazard eliminated.

Why Foam — Not Mudjacking

For sidewalks, the difference between foam and mudjacking is especially critical

Mudjacking Creates New Problems

Mudjacking pumps 100-150 lbs per cubic foot of heavy cement slurry under your sidewalk. The soil already couldn't support the slab — adding more weight just accelerates the next round of settlement. Most mudjacked sidewalks sink again within 2-5 years.

The slurry doesn't spread evenly — it creates new voids and can ooze up through joints, staining the surface. The 1-2 inch holes are also far more noticeable on narrow sidewalk slabs.

Foam Fixes the Root Cause

Polyurethane foam weighs just 2-4 lbs per cubic foot — like floating a boat. It also pushes into weak soil and strengthens it as it expands, addressing why the slab sank in the first place.

Foam is waterproof and won't erode. It cures in 15 minutes, uses tiny 5/8" holes, and lasts 20+ years. The U.S. Department of Transportation prefers polyurethane foam for highway repairs — your sidewalk gets the same proven technology.

The Smart Financial Choice

50-70%

Less than replacement

1-3 hrs

Average completion

3-Year

Warranty included

Compare: replacing a sidewalk section means demolition, hauling, forming, pouring, and a week of cure time. Lifting takes hours and costs a fraction.

Sidewalk Leveling FAQ

Can you fix a sidewalk that tree roots pushed up?

Yes. We can level slabs displaced by tree roots. In some cases, roots may need to be trimmed first to prevent recurrence. We assess this during consultation.

How long does sidewalk leveling take?

Most residential sidewalk jobs take 1-3 hours. Walk on it immediately after.

Is it worth leveling or should I just replace it?

If the concrete is structurally sound, leveling is almost always better. It costs 50-70% less, takes hours instead of days, and produces the same result.

Why not just use mudjacking? It's cheaper.

Mudjacking adds 100-150 lbs per cubic foot of heavy slurry to soil that already couldn't support the slab. It settles back within 2-5 years, meaning you pay twice. The slurry also creates new voids under the slab and can stain the surface. Our polyurethane foam weighs 2-4 lbs per cubic foot, strengthens the soil as it expands, and lasts 20+ years.

Will the city require me to fix my uneven sidewalk?

Many Michigan municipalities have ordinances requiring homeowners to maintain safe sidewalks. Concrete lifting is the fastest and most affordable way to comply.

Can you level just one or two slabs?

Absolutely. We can lift as few as one slab. No minimum project size.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Up to 12 months same-as-cash and longer-term plans.
