When It's Time for a New Driveway

Not every driveway can be saved with lifting or repair. When concrete is severely deteriorated — crumbling, spalling, or broken into multiple pieces — replacement is the right call. A driveway that has been patched repeatedly or has extensive scaling from salt damage needs to be torn out and rebuilt properly.

Michigan driveways take a beating. Road salt, heavy vehicles, snowplows, and relentless freeze-thaw cycles all contribute to concrete deterioration. A driveway that was poorly constructed — with inadequate sub-base preparation or missing control joints — will fail prematurely.

A new concrete driveway, built correctly, should last 25-30+ years with minimal maintenance. The key is proper sub-base compaction, adequate thickness, appropriate reinforcement, and well-placed control joints.

Signs You Need a New Driveway

When repair or lifting isn't enough

Extensive spalling and scaling — surface flaking off in large areas

Multiple large cracks patched repeatedly without lasting results

Concrete crumbling at edges, exposing aggregate beneath

Severe settlement across the entire driveway, not just individual slabs

Driveway is over 25 years old with widespread deterioration

Standing water across large areas due to failed drainage

Our Construction Process

Every step engineered for durability and longevity

Step 01

Consultation & Design

Free on-site assessment of your needs, design options (width, thickness, finish, borders), and a firm quote. We evaluate grade, drainage, and soil conditions. The quote we confirm is the price you pay.

Consultation & Design
Step 02

Demolition & Excavation

Old driveway removed and hauled away. We excavate to proper depth, grade the sub-base for drainage, address soft spots, and compact the entire sub-base to prevent future settlement.

Demolition & Excavation
Step 03

Sub-Base, Forms & Reinforcement

Compacted gravel sub-base for stable support and drainage. Forms set to correct grade and dimensions. Rebar or wire mesh reinforcement placed as specified.

Step 04

Pour, Finish & Cure

Concrete poured to specified thickness, consolidated to eliminate air pockets, and finished to your chosen texture. Control joints cut at proper intervals. Curing compound applied for maximum strength.

"Matt and his crew did a great job. Jacob is a very hard worker. I am very glad we had them do our walkway and back patio. Thanks for a job well done."

Jim Kotlarek

"We had KIK do a brick retaining wall which turned out looking fabulous! We also had them tear out our old large bushes, put down a barrier, and then add river rock. It turned out very nice."

Driveway Construction FAQ

How long does a new driveway take to install?

A typical residential driveway replacement takes 3-5 days from demolition to finished pour. Curing takes an additional 7 days before you can drive on it.

How thick should a concrete driveway be?

Minimum 4 inches for standard residential use. 6 inches with additional reinforcement for heavy vehicles (RVs, trucks, trailers).

Should I choose concrete or asphalt?

Concrete lasts significantly longer (25-30+ years vs. 15-20 years), requires less maintenance, and offers more design options. Total cost of ownership is typically lower.

Can you add decorative elements?

Yes — stamped borders, exposed aggregate finishes, colored concrete, and decorative scoring patterns. We can also integrate Vuba Stone overlays for a premium look.

What about permits?

Most Michigan municipalities require a permit for driveway replacement. We handle the permit process as part of our service — included in your quote.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Up to 12 months same-as-cash financing, plus longer-term payment plans.
