Basement Floor Services

Every basement floor project is different — here is what we handle

New Construction Floors

Pouring basement floors for new homes and additions. Properly graded, reinforced, and sealed from the start.

Floor Replacement

Removing and replacing old, cracked, or heaving basement floors. We address the underlying issues before pouring new concrete.

Moisture & Waterproofing

Vapor barriers, drainage channels, and sealers to keep your basement dry. Critical for finished basements.

Floor Leveling & Repair

Fixing uneven sections, filling cracks, and leveling low spots in existing basement floors.

Moisture Is the #1 Basement Floor Issue

Michigan's high water table means moisture management is not optional for basement floors — it is essential. Without a proper vapor barrier and drainage plan, moisture wicks up through the concrete, causing mold, musty odors, damaged flooring, and structural issues over time.

We address moisture at the source: vapor barriers under the slab, proper grading for drainage, and sealers on top. If your existing basement floor has moisture problems, we diagnose the cause before recommending a solution — because pouring new concrete over a moisture problem just hides it temporarily.

Our Basement Floor Process

Built from the sub-grade up for a dry, level, lasting floor

01

Assessment & Diagnosis

We inspect the existing floor (or sub-grade for new construction), check for moisture issues, evaluate drainage, and determine the right approach. You get a firm quote with no surprises.

02

Demolition (If Replacing)

Old concrete is removed and hauled away. We inspect the sub-grade underneath for drainage issues, soft spots, or plumbing that needs attention.

03

Sub-Grade & Vapor Barrier

Gravel base is installed and compacted. A heavy-duty vapor barrier goes down to block moisture migration. Drainage channels are added if needed.

04

Reinforcement & Pour

Wire mesh or rebar is placed based on the floor's requirements. Concrete is poured, leveled, and finished to your chosen specification.

05

Finish, Seal & Cure

The floor is finished (smooth, broom, or decorative), sealed for moisture protection, and given proper cure time before use.

Basement Floor Finish Options

Smooth / Trowel Finish

The standard basement floor finish. Smooth, level, and ready for carpet, tile, vinyl, or engineered hardwood installation.

Best for: Finished basements, living spaces

Broom Finish

A light texture for slip resistance. Good for utility basements, laundry areas, and workshops where traction matters.

Best for: Utility areas, workshops, laundry rooms

Sealed / Coated

A clear or colored sealer applied for moisture protection and stain resistance. Can be left as the finished floor or used as a base for other flooring.

Best for: Any basement — adds moisture protection

Polished Concrete

Ground and polished to a high sheen for a modern, finished look. No additional flooring needed — the concrete IS the floor.

Best for: Modern finished basements, rec rooms

Basement Floor FAQ

How thick should a basement floor be?

Standard basement floors are 4 inches thick. This is sufficient for residential use including finished living spaces, storage, and workshops.

Do I need a vapor barrier?

Yes — in virtually every case. Michigan's soil moisture levels make a vapor barrier essential for preventing moisture migration through the slab. This is especially critical if you plan to install flooring on top of the concrete.

Can you replace just part of a basement floor?

Yes. If only a section is damaged, we can cut out and replace that section. However, if the damage is widespread or caused by underlying drainage issues, a full replacement may be more cost-effective.

How long does a basement floor take?

Most residential basement floors are poured in 1-2 days. Allow 7 days before light use and 28 days for full cure before installing flooring.

Can you work around existing plumbing?

Yes. We form and pour around floor drains, cleanouts, sump pits, and other plumbing fixtures.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Up to 12 months same-as-cash and longer-term plans.
